The Family Table
Audio / Produced by The High CallingTranscript
An old man was forced to move in with his son's family. But he could not eat at the dinner table without making a mess. Annoyed, the son had his father eat alone at a separate table.
A few days later, the son observed his own children playing house with two tables. "Why two tables?" he asked his kids. "One is for my family," his little girl explained. "The other is for you when you're old." That evening, the son returned his father to the family table, grateful to have him there.
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge, and this old story holds at least two timeless lessons: one about honoring our parents and one about the examples we set . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you. Exodus 20:12
