Leashes

Audio / Produced by The High Calling

Transcript

No matter how many times my buddy takes his dog out for a walk, when they reach a certain tree, he goes around one way and his dog goes the other. The leash tangles. They both try to back up. The dog whines, he mutters, legs jam.

That dog never thinks about the leash! He never considers what’s holding him back. He just keeps moving—often the wrong way, but always moving. Up, back—he works every angle.

Can you identify with that dog? I do. In frustration, I pull and strain. Eventually, I learn to stop, listen, and to obey.

This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge reminding you that life is full of tangled leashes. Don't be afraid to stop, listen, and obey. Sometimes you follow and sometimes you lead in the high calling of our daily work.

Direct me in the path of your commands, for there I find delight.
Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things; preserve my life according to your word.

(Ps. 119:35-37)
