Tom Landry

The late Dallas Cowboys coach, Tom Landry, often spoke of winning and character. A sign in the Cowboys' locker room said: "The quality of a man's life is in direct proportion to his commitment to excellence." Below that inscription were these words from 1 Corinthians 9:24-25, "Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."
This is Howard Butt, Jr., of Laity Lodge. Those words on a locker room wall are worth inscribing on our own hearts . . . in the high calling of our daily work.
"Act with courage, and may the LORD be with those who do well."
